Powder Coating PA Keystone Koating

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why is powder coating better than paint?
  • Powder coating is baked onto the steel part, forming a thicker layer of protection that is stronger and more weather-resistant, minimizing scratching, peeling and fading.
  • How much time does it take to get something powder coated?
  • We generally aim for a 7-10 day turn around time. However, due to some variables in the coating process, it can take as long as two weeks.
  • What powder colors do you offer?
  • There are several hundred standard colors and textures to choose from, or we can have your color matched in a custom color lab for an additional charge.
  • Is powder coating environmentally friendly?
  • Much more so than paint. Powder is non toxic, and environmentally safe, emitting no harmful VOC fumes. The entire process at Keystone Koating has been tailored with the environment in mind. All of our waste water is evaporated, excess powder is recycled, and any harmful waste from burn off is incinerated.
  • What's the largest size that can be powder coated?
  • As a general rule, our dimensions max out at 84”H x 84”W x 204” L, however in some instances we can coat parts that are as long as 22 feet.
  • What's the largest size that can be blasted?
  • Our Steel Shot Blaster can handle parts as long as 20 ft, providing they are not taller than 18 inches high, and no wider than 48 inches. Through some dependable out-sources we can also provide sandblasting where size is of no consequence.
  • Does my part need to be blasted before powder coating?
  • Many parts that come to us DO need blasting before being coated. However, if a part is new, clean, and has no mill scale or corrosion of any kind, we can coat it without any blasting.
  • Can you powder coat car or motorcycle parts?
  • Yes we can. However, sometimes these parts have components that are attached that may not withstand the temperatures used in the curing of the powder coating. We recommend that the parts be completely disassembled.
  • What are your pick up and receiving hours?
  • Our docks open at 7 AM, and close at 4:30 PM, Mon – Fri.
  • How do I get my parts to you? Can they be sent by UPS?
  • You certainly can UPS them; we can also pick them up for you, or you can drop them off yourself.
  • How do I get a quote on my parts?
  • The best way is to bring your part to us for evaluation. However, if that is not feasible you may use our online form or contact us via email at: info@keystonekoating.com. An attached photo is always helpful, with measurements.
  • Do I need to do anything to my parts before I bring them?
  • As a general rule, no. However, if your parts have components that are heat sensitive, you will need to remove those components.
  • Can you powder coat wood or plastic?
  • The success of the powder coating process hinges on our ability to electrically ground the part that we are coating, therefore, wood and plastic will not work.
